Canning Wins Challenge Sprint Pro

Canadian Cody Canning pulled off a shock when he sprinted to victory on the Challenge Sprint Pro in Quebec, Canada.

This now traditional curtain raiser to the GP meetings in Canada is a competition for the sprinters with each team sending at least one rider to the event which was held on roads drying out after a storm.

There was a knock out round before the three Quarter-Finals and in the first heat, Bryan Coquard was going against three Canadian riders and came from behind to win ahead of Doyle.

Steele Van Hoff of Garmin Sharp beat Cody Canning in the second heat and in the last heat, JJ Lobato of Movistar and Bozic of Astana who booked their places in the Semi-Finals.

Six riders were now left. Coquard the reigning champion, Canning and Bozic went in the first semi-final and it was Coquard who sprinted into the final along with the Canadian Canning.

Another Canadian in Elliott Doyle was in the other semi-final with Steel Van Hoff and JJ Lobato. Van Hoff went early and won with Doyle just beating Lobato to book his place in the final.

Bryan Coquard of Team Europcar, Canning and Doyle from the Canadian National Team and Steel Van Hoff of Garmin-Sharp contested the final. Canning went early and took the win and beat Coquard, Van Hoff and Doyle.

"I did not know to what to expect. It was pretty cool to race against these guys in front of a big crowd. This is an event i don't train for but I should if there were more. "It was always fun to win and this was fun."
