Cadel Evans Names His Last Race

"It isn’t a race for me – I count myself out,” Evans said to the press in Melbourne, “but I want to finish well.”

 

Before that , the 2011 Tour De France and 2009 World Championship winner will race in the Tour Down Under and the Australian National Championship road race.

Speaking about his career to Rupert Guinness of the Border Mail, Evans said: "I have really worked a lot to get all these results. I worked hard to get a few more, but things happen..

"But there is a massive amount of motivation and momentum behind what I do that has got me to do all the work that is required – the training, the travel and all the sacrifices and discipline you need to do to perform in any sport – or anything.

"I find that now, to put the brakes on that momentum, is not that easy because there is quite a force behind it after all these years.

"But one thing as an athlete – and I think it is healthy – is to always be hungry and almost never be satisfied.

"But if you are never satisfied you never appreciate what you have done.

"So maybe in January and February I will look back on my career and appreciate what I have done, otherwise I will be a bit unhappy.

"I would love to finish off January as best I can."
