Breschel Wins Tour Of Luxembourg Stage 2

Tinkoff-Saxo's Matti Breschel has won the second stage of The 74th Skoda Tour Of Luxembourg.

Stage two which had Danny Van Poppel in the leaders yellow jersey,was 157.6kms long and from Rosport to Schifflange.

MTN Qhubeka's Jacques Jense Van Rensburg, Juan Arrango of the Colombian team, Boris Dron of the Wallonie-Bruxelles team and Ilnur Zakarin of Rusvelo were the days main breakers, taking a lead of 4.47 after fifty kilometres.

That lead came down to 3.24, some twenty seven kilometres later and with forty kilometres to go, the gap was 1.20 as the race headed for the finsh on a one kilometre 12% climb at Schiffilange.

Dron dropped off the pace and inside the final fifteen kilometres, Jense Van Rensburg, Arrango and Zakarin were left with a lead of thirty five seconds, which went out to fifty seconds four kilometres later.

The trio were caught with six kilometres to go and the pace ramped up, with splits occuring in the peloton.

Tinkoff-Saxo's Matti Breschel had attacked before the finish of stage one but today he was not to be denied and surged away to take the victory with Wanty Group's Jean Pierre Drucker in second place.

That second place was enough to put Drucker in the yellow leader's jersey for stage three which the longest stage of the race at 205kms long and is from Eschweiler to Differdange.
