Brammier - The Irish Champion

Last updated : 26 June 2011 By Kev Monks

Matt Brammier is truly the cycling champion of Ireland.

On Friday night, the HTC Highroad rider won the Individual Time Trial and today in Monaghan, he won the mens road race for the second successive year.

Unfortunately, for Brammier, he won't be able to wear his Ireland jersey at the Tour De France as he was omitted from their team which was announced earlier today.

He said after the race which saw him finish ahead of Danny Martin and David McCann to the HTC Highroad press office: "I'm unbelievably happy to have won again. I just stayed calm throughout the race and made sure I was always at the front and not having to chase.

"I saved everything for that last effort to be in the winning move and it paid off well! It was a close sprint but a win is a win!"
