Bra gjort Utrecht!

Chapeau to Utrecht, who staged an excellent Grand Depart of the 2015 Tour De France.

When the decision was announced that Utrecht were to bring the Tour De France to the Netherlands, a few eyebrows were raised, especially when one remembers that problems of short run offs for riders in Rotterdam for the 2010 start.

However, the organising committee, who were very evident in Leeds in 2014 have taken notice and adapted a good product into something that will provide long lasting memories.

Having the 13.8km time trial won easily by Rohan Dennis of BMC right by the train station was a masterstroke. Not only did it reduce the race's carbon footprint, it also allowed many more thousands of people to get a glimpse of the riders and enjoy what is a good day out for all.

Extra trains and extra carriages were laid on to services which would be highly envied in the UK and with some unique and good signage in the station, the masses were able to get a good place to watch the race and get away very swiftly afterwards. .

With plenty of trams and the city easy accessible by bike, Utrecht was able to move people to where people needed to be moved to.

The Mayor Of Utrecht Jan van Zanen had rightly thanked everyone who had helped in the organising and running of the Tour De France including the Tourmakers, who were friendly and helpful as were the police on duty.

Thankfully, the media, who were housed in the Jarbuurr Trade Centre, a massive exhibition centre, did not have to report on the police strike wrecking the start of the time trial and the sprint won by Jan Barta in Rotterdam and like the meet the riders presentation in the Park Lepelenburg, the fans who made the trip to Utrecht were glad they did.
