BMC Wins World Championship Time Trial

BMC Racing have retained their World Championships Team Time Trial title.

In Richmond, Virginia, USA, twenty seven teams took on a 38.6km course. with American team Champion Systems, the first down the ramp. followed by Lupus Racing and Astellas Racing who included 19 year old Brit Dan Gardner in their five riders, one short of the six that the other teams had.

IAM Cycling were the first of the seventeen World Tour teams down the ramp and after Champion Systems had finished in 47.22.48, they set the time to beat for the World Tour teams likely to win this annual event of 44.05.64.

Cannondale finished in 43.57.77 to take over the lead as Michel Valgren of Tinkoff Saxo crashed with his team already down to five riders.

FDJ set a new fastest time of 43.56 but LottoNL-Jumbo came home twenty six seconds quicker with a time of 43.25.00. 

Giant Alpecin rode well and they finished in 43.11.66 as BMC were twelve seconds quicker at the second check point.

Team Sky, who had three riders crash in training, finished in 43.50 to go provisionally fourth.

British rider Alex Dowsett rode in the Movistar team and the British Time Trial champion helped his team set the new fastest time of 42.38. 

Etixx Quick Step who included Tony Martin, then took over the lead with a time of 42.19.32.

BMC were the last to start and the American based team with Rohan Dennis and Taylor Phinney in their team, did not disappoint as they came home to win in 42.07.97 and retain their World Tour Team title.
