Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team beat the Cardiff Devils 3-2 at the Skydome in their first challenge match ahead of the new Elite League campaign.
The Blaze are reporting that:
"Jereme Tendler - one of 10 new imports on the Blaze roster - took just five minutes to score his first goal for the club, firing past Devils netminder Ben Bowns - his team-mate at Hull Stingrays last season.
Trevor Hendrikz levelled on the powerplay at 8.12 only for Steve Goertzen, who lifted the play-off trophy for Sheffield Steelers in April, to restore Blaze's lead.
Derek Lee added a third at 15.35 but Matt Myers (34.43) cut the deficit again before Blaze survived a late six-on-four Devils powerplay.
Coach Marc LeFebvre said: "It is always pleasing to get the win but we know we will only get better.
"There were some good things we showed out there. We found a way to win, we showed character at the end, we never gave up and protected a lead at home.
"But there is always room for improvement and we have another three pre-season games before we start for real."
