Bauke Mollema Wins Tour Of Alberta

Trek Factory Racing's Bauke Mollema has won the Tour Of Alberta.

The final stage was an eleven lap criterium around the streets of Edmonton and saw Bauke Mollema of Trek Factory Racing lead out the peloton from Sir Winston Churchill Square.

There were no breaks on the opening lap but on lap two, Skjerping, Benedetti, Perry, Hornbeck and Sheldon of Jelly Bean were able to take a thirty second lead over the field.

Ben Perry took the first KOM points of three on the stage but it was Skujins who took the sprint on lap four after he and Ty Magner bridged to the escapers.

The break was never allowed to get more than 1.30 ahead as Benedetti took the sprint points and Canadian Ben Perry of Silber claimed the Go Auto 2015 KOM competition.

Seven became eight became five and and with one eleveln kilometre lap to go, only Gregory, Daniel, Sheldon, Benedetti and Skjerping were on the front but their time in the lead was brought to an end and Tom Jelte Slagter the winner of two stages tried to attack but Mollema was straight on him and the peloton were back together with two kilometres to go.

It came down to a sprint and Nikias Arndt of Giant Alpecin took the win in 2.44.57 ahead of Michael Matthews of Orica GreenEdge, Dion Smith, Wouter Wippet and Irishman Sam Bennett of Bora Argon 18.

Bauke Mollema finished safely to win the race overall.
