Bauer Wins Jayco Sun Herald Tour Opener

Jack Bauer won the Prologue of the Jayco Sun Herald Tour in Australia.

A race which is normally held at the start of the January but was put back to avoid the excessive heat, started with a 2.5km Prologue from Birrarung Marr to SouthBank.

Tom Scully of the New Zealand team set the early time to beat of 3.01 and he was able to hold off most of the field including members of a Great Britain team which had Germain Burton finish in tenth place ahead of the Santos Tour Down Under winner Simon Gerrans of Orica Green Edge.

Drapac's Will Clarke, who was always in the attacks in the Tour Down Under last month came in a second behond Scully, but on the same time as Ireland's Felix English. but on the road, Jack Bauer of the Garmin-Sharp team was tearing up the road and won the stage in a time of three minutes exactly.
