Orica GreenEdge's Michael Albasini won the eighth stage of the Tour De Suisse this afternoon.

A 148.2km stage from Bischofszell to Arosa saw a four man break in Peter Velits, Micheal Albasini, Thomas Dekker and Remi Cusin.

They were 6:10 ahead of the peloton as the stage entered its last sixty kilometres on a sunny day.

Race Leader Rui Costa punctured but managed to get himself back into the lead group as Albasini lead Velits over the penultimate climb at Castiel.

The final climb was up the 1231m mountain at Arosa (pictured below). Alabasini had a lead of 3.25 on the peloton which had Frank Schleck and Nicholas Roche at the front as they approached the steepest part of the climb.

Velits was caught and it was Albasini against the rest as Frank Schleck, Mikel Nieve and Levi Leipheimer were two minutes behind and then came a group containing Robert Gesink, followed by the peloton with the yellow jersey.

Albasini kept going and took the win. A minute and sixteen seconds later, Leipheimer and Nieve followed by Schleck came home.

The provisional results see Rui Costa keeping his leaders jersey some 14 seconds ahead of Frank Schleck.
