The route for the 2016 Tour De Yorkshire has been announced.
The three day race in its second year will start in the town of Beverley on April 29th, and finish in Scarborough on May 1st and will also host a one-day women’s race.
The opening stage is 184kms long and starts in Beverley and has two sprints plus KOM points on Greenhow Hill on a stage which passes through Tadcaster and Knaresborough before heading for Settle, where they will complete a twelve kilometre circuit before the finish line.
Stage two is a 135.5km course which will be raced by both the men and women, the stage starts In Otley and finishes in Doncaster. Three climbs at Harewood Bank, East Rigton and Conisbrough Castle will be tackled in a race which sees some 5,535 metres of climbing.
From Doncaster, it is a transfer up to Middlebrough for the start of the final stage.
A 196km stage with six climbs and 2,593 metres of climbing, the race leaves Middlesbrough and passes the North York Moors National Park before Whitby and then the finish at North Bay in Scarborough.
“For next year’s race we’ve selected routes which showcase Yorkshire’s stunning scenery and will also deliver an excellent sporting event,” said Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Gary Verity in a press release.
“Our first race was phenomenally successful, bringing 1.5 million spectators to the roadside, generating over £50million for the regional economy and being broadcast around the world - not many races can say that. The stages we’ve revealed today are eagerly anticipated by fans, riders and teams and we have all the ingredients for another spectacular race which will bring the crowds back out.”
