The Zodiacs-50 years in the business and still rockin'

On Friday 4th September at the Coundon social Club, Coventry, one of Coventry's very first 'pop bands' celebrates 50 years and it's open to all.

The band is hoping that many of the fellow musicians and fans who shared their journey will be on hand to celebrate this amazing achievement. Indeed the Zodiacs are hoping many musicians will be in attendance with their instruments, ready to take the stage for a nostalgic trip back in time.

Local music historian Pete Chambers said this of the Zodiacs, "Look around at the bands there are today, could you really imagine them to be still together in fifty years time? Can't really see it myself, but back in 1959 some budding young musicians probably would have laughed at you if you had asked them the same question. The amazing thing is those budding young musicians did last that long and they are still together and whats more they are still called the Zodiacs. Fifty years on and two of the original members of the band Maurice Redhead and Terry Wyatt, are still out there playing, along with Terry Rye and Brian Bayton. Putting things in perspective time-wise, when the Zodiacs career had just begun, Buddy Holly's career had just been tragically cut short".

Terry Wyatt was asked how he felt about being together for five decades. He replied- "It's been a great 50 years and we are looking forward to the next 50" he joked! "We have made some good friends along the way and played with some top people. We are really looking forward to seeing many of the people we have played concerts for there that night. We are hoping to have a lot of the past members on stage and take it from me, there's been a few over the years"..
