Tony's solo single takes 50 years for good cause

When Tony Beard lost his wife Helen to Cancer in 2004, the love and attention she received from Myton Hospice sparked a series of fundraising for the charity; these have even included charity concerts featuring the likes of the 60's favourites The Fortunes. As a former member of 1960's beat group Bob Tempest and the Buccaneers, it seemed logical at some point his fundraising would take a vocal turn. So with the help of Roger Lomas and members of the The Subterraneans, Tony has finally recorded that first solo single. He may have taken 50 years to do it, but that hasn't dampened his enthusiasm one bit.

"It was great to be back in the studio" explained Tony, "It's something you don't forget, as soon as the music plays it all comes back to you. The song is a rework of the chart topping song Kinks Sunny Afternoon. I'm not trying to sing like Ray Davies, it's me being me, but it really works. I love music, so putting out this single makes sense. I'm doing this because I want Myton Hospice open and available to everybody, I want to give something back, they looked after my wife and of course they look after such a lot of people, they are fabulous",

Coventry music Historian Pete Chambers commented, "Tony is a great guy and does so much great work for Myton Hospice, he's had a very interesting musical history, even working for legendary manager Don Arden (the late Father of Sharon Osborne). Tony has done a cracking job with this song, and all for the right reasons, the least we can do is support him".
