"The pause button that was inextricably pressed some 27 years ago is about to be released and with it comes the dawning of a new era, excited, you bet I am." said Coventry Music Historian Pete Chambers as tonight iconic Coventry band The Specials play their first live UK gig for 27 years in Newcastle.

The gig at the Newcastle Academy is the first night of a 30th Anniversary UK tour which sees gigs tomorrw night in Sheffield, Saturday and Sunday in Birmngham, two nights in Glasgow before five nights at the Brixton Academy.

All are sold out as is the gig on May 15 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. it is a tour which then takes in Leeds before the fesitval season starts and a tour of Japan and Australia.

The Specials will be without Keyboards player and band main man Jerry Dammers but all the other six Specials, Terry, Roddy, Horace, Lynval, Neville and Brad are together and those who saw the band perform four numbers on the Jools Holland Show the other week will have seen the signs that the old magic and energy which made the band the gift from Coventry to the world that it was, is very much still there.

if you are lucky enough to have a ticket for any of the gigs - Enjoy yourself it's later than you think.
