Nuneaton Town Seek Academy Scholars

Nuneaton Town are holding an 'Open Trials Day' on Tuesday 22nd December 2015 at the A1 Gas Force Arena, Liberty Way, with a view to signing up new recruits to strengthen the Academy.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for talented youngsters in the 16-19 age range to build a career in the game while also preparing for their future.

Not only will the scholars have full-time training as footballers, they will also study for BTEC qualifications through the Academy’s education programme.

Those involved in the trials will get the chance to reveal their potential at a training and skills session in the morning, before playing in a match during the afternoon.

Manager Kevin Wilson said: “A key part of my management philosophy has always been to plan for the future by developing our own players and I’m anxious to see a steady stream of youngsters coming through to press for first-team places.

“Everything is already in place for us to operate a thriving Academy system but we need to push on. There’s always room for improvement and we must constantly strive to raise our standards.

“We get inquiries all the time from youngsters wanting to join us and the idea of staging the trials day is to make an early start in assessing candidates for next summer’s new intake of scholars.

“The majority of those will currently be involved in a League Club’s Academy process but are not being offered a scholarship. But we have a completely open mind and are interested in anyone who has talent and the desire to make the grade.”

Most of the new recruits are expected to be youngsters leaving school in the summer but Wilson added that anyone who makes a big impression during the trials could be invited to join the Nuneaton Academy straight away.
