Mini Cine opens in Coventry!

On Friday 14th August at 10.00am,possibly the smallest public cinema in the UK if not the whole world was opened by Councillor Gary Ridley at Coventry Market.

Councillor Gary Ridley, Cabinet Member for City Development who officially opened the cinema had this to say. "Coventry Market is such a great place in the first instance with 70,000 people a week through the door, and this is just one of the ways people can entertain themselves while they are here. I have just been looking at the historical footage of the Market in the Cinema including the 50th Anniversary that happened last year and its good to see the Market going stronger than ever".

The red ribbon was cut whilst the organ played and market managers Michael Finnegan and Brian Sexton handed out free candy floss and pop-corn to shoppers who were keen to try out the record breaking picture palace. It's hoped that the cinema will give Market customers a break from shopping and giving them a chance to learn more about the buildings history into the bargain and may even get itself into the record books.

A book about the market's history is also due to be published later this year
