Seven times Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong won his first race back when he took the time trial on the opening day of the Tour de Greune.

Armstrong, riding in his native Texas, wore a tight black skin suit and finished the sixteen miles course in a time of 33 minutes,14 seconds.

He also won the 27.2 mile two man team time trial with John Korioth in a time of 56.36, some two and a half minutes quicker than anyone else.

The American, who has vowed to make the world aware of cancer, has yet to be invited to the Tour De France which starts on July 4th in Monaco. The 21 stages will take in Barcelona and Andorra before the finish on the Champ-Elysees in Paris on Sunday July 26th.

it has been a highly successful three days for the British cyclists competing in the UCI World Track Championship in Manchester.

British riders had plenty of successes with wins for Mark Crampton and Victoria Pendleton amongst others. The only disappointment was in the Madison where TDF riders and Olympic winners Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas finished sixth.
