Friday 1st July line up

Main stage

The UK's biggest FREE family festival starts with an evening of music from the Eighties with great bands from that decade. The Friday of the Godiva Festival is now traditionally a trip back to the Seventies and Eighties and previous acts such as Human League, Go West and Leo Sayer have wowed the crowds who have bopped the night away. This retro themed evening is always very popular and gets festival goers in the mood for a great weekend.

The line up of live performers include: 80s legends Heaven 17 and Blancmange supported by synth pop band The Mirrors and the MidiMidis. As well as the impressive live sets there will also be disco classics and prize giveaways adding to the excitement of the evening.

Heaven 17
Heaven 17 are the English synth-pop band originating from Sheffield who started out at the very beginning of the 1980s. Taking their name from a fictitious band in cult movie A Clockwork Orange, the then 3 piece band had a rather quiet impact on the British pop scene before bursting to prominence with the 1983 smash hit "Temptation", taken from the album "The Luxury Gap". Further hits followed with "Crushed by the wheels of industry" and "Come live with me" which remains one of the most recognisable 80s synth hits to date.

Blancmange
Blancmange are a 2 piece electro-pop band formed in Middlesex in 1979. The band found initial exposure on the seminal "Some Bizarre Album" featuring alongside Soft Cell and Depeche Mode. They then exploded onto the UK charts with the top 10 single "Living on the Ceiling" in 1982. Further top 20 hits followed including Waves, Blind Vision and 1984 hits Don't tell me and their cover of ABBA's The day before you came, both taken from UK top 10 Album, Mange Tout.

Mirrors
Mirrors are an English synth-pop band hailing from Brighton. The 4 piece prefer to describe their 80s inspired brand as "Electronic Soul" and "Pop Noir", with their main sound source emanating from analogue synthesizers. Their style of synth driven pop sound has been compared to that of Kraftwerk, Orchestral Manouvers in the dark and Depeche Mode. 2011 is proving to be a momentous year for the band, with their debut album "Lights and Offerings" released in February. April saw them touring as a headline act in Cologne and they will be supporting OMD in Spain in June, before heading to the Friday night Godiva main-stage.

Sunday line up

The full line up for Sunday's Main Stage of the final day welcomes a relaxed and acoustic feel to close the three day event.
International sensation, Sandi Thom will be headlining with support from Acapella phenomenon The Magnets, along with local favourites The Ripps and Anthony Harty, giving a real local feel to the afternoon's performances.

The Ripps
Coventry band who were selected to support The Specials on their 2009 UK tour. The Ripps have long been a favourite in local live music venues and picked up some famous fans along the way, such as Selecter legends Pauline Black and Neol Davies. The band was featured in the stage show "Too Much Pressure" at the Belgrade Theatre in early 2011, writing and providing the music for the acclaimed show.

The Magnets
They are the singing secret that the stars have kept to themselves, the vocal group with razor sharp harmonies and jaw dropping beat-boxing. After selling out the London Roundhouse and several electrifying festival appearances, not to mention a starring role in T-mobile's flash-mob advert, The Magnets are emerging as one of the must see acts on the British music scene. Literally a 6 piece sound machine, making all their music and beats with their mouths alone they blend their distinct voices to create a sound that rivals any band with guitars and keyboards.

Anthony Harty (& The Expensive Musicians!)
Local musician Anthony famously kick-started his career by striding into Paul Weller's Style Council auditions as a brash 16-year-old and landing the bass guitarist's slot in the legend's post-Jam incarnation. Now, as a key member of Pauline Black's Selecter comeback, he is releasing his own album titled "Baggage" at the beginning of June, before heading to Godiva with the "Expensive Musicians" made up of Horace Panter (The Specials), Mike Roberts (King), Danny Webb (The Sheratones) Ian Wilkinson and Caroline Byrne Clarke.

The platinum selling Scottish singer-songwriter brings her own unique blend of punk-blues stylings to the proceedings, having long since proven the power of her song writing and vocal abilities. A little over 5 years ago, debut album Smile...it confuses people and massive hit single I wish I was a punk rocker both stormed to the top of the UK charts on the way to worldwide sales of a combined 1.5 million. Now with consequent album and single sales topping almost 3 million and 7number ones to date, the Godiva crowds can see what the fuss really is all about at first hand...and they won't be disappointed!

Further entertainment on the day will come with dance performances from Freeman Dance, and their Elite Dance Group and kids' favourites Popblast, who will have the youngest members of the audience up dancing singing and getting involved in the carnival atmosphere.

Mick McLaughlin, Head of Marketing and Communications for the Council said:

"Sunday's main stage has always proven to have a wonderful laid back chilled out feel to it and with the line up gathered together this year, festival goers are in for an absolute treat. The blend of established and local artists will ensure the final day of Godiva 2011 will be a memorable one. There are fantastic family themes running throughout the day with Popblast, Freeman Dance and Elite Dance Group all performing, showing there is something for all the family to enjoy together!"
