Former GMK Fanzine Editor Joe Rukin is to give evidence to a Transport Select Committee at the Houses Of Parliament about the HS2 train project.

The project is set to cut through swathes of Warwickshire countryside including townd and villages including Kenilworth, Stoneleigh, Cubbington, Burton Green and Offchurch if the plans for a faster train link between Birmingham and London with a journey time of around 49 minutes are approved by the Government.

Coventry's existing train services are expected to be cut by two thirds with those wanting to travel to London, either forced to go to Birmingham International Station or catch a slow stopping train to the capital rather than the current Virgin trains which take around an hour and even Geoffrey Robinson MP has claimed the line would turn Coventry in a 'backwater'.

Mr Rukin, who is Chairman of the Kenilworth Action Group will put forward evidence on November 30th and he said to the CT: "We welcome this opportunity to present the facts to the transport select commitee and find it extremely encouraging that such a high level respected committee is taking the opposition to HS2 seriously.

"The committee wants to know if the appraisal process is fit for purpose and HS2 presents the prefect case study showing the decision making process has been totally flawed.

"HS2 has been justified by including un-realistic benefits, stretching the rules on costs and assuming no competitve response. It over states the economic benefits and ignores the enviromental impact. Now there is real momentum behind the campaign to stop HS2 dead in its unbuilt tracks."
