Coventry Watch Museum Project

We all have the odd watch and clock lying discarded in our dusty cupboards, well now is the time to get it out and bring it along to Coventry Market on Friday 10th July from 9.00am to 4.00pm, and find out a little of its history.

Coventry is globally famed for it's watchmaking history, and those experts who keep the traditions alive will be taking a look at your timepieces on Friday, so bring those old watches along, even if they no longer function. The truth is some of these timepieces may even have more of a story to tell than their owners, so now's the opportunity to find out!

Along on the day will be Tony Barber, who was the last apprentice watchmaker to qualify as a 'master watchmaker' in Coventry. Tony learnt his trade in one of the old historic 'Top Shops' in Chappelfields and was made Freeman of this City in recognition of his skills as a watchmaker.

That's not all, there will also be a selection of rare handmade Coventry pocket watches on display on the day.

This promises to be a fascinating free day for young and old alike, and it's a chance to show another rich thread of Coventry's fine history.
