Coventry Copsewood  have won the Coventry Charity Cup after beating Southam United 1-0 after extra time in the final at the Ricoh Arena.

The annual Coventry Charity Football Cup Final, this year saw an all Midland Football League Division One Final between, Southam United who had not conceded a goal on their way to the final and Coventry Copsewood who had got past Alvis, Coundon Court Highway, Jet Blades and Brinklow.

The Saints were the first to have a shot with Jones pushing through to fire wide before Copsewood fielding former Coventry City youngster Michael Quirke won a corner, which was cleared off the line by Matty Hunt.

Quirke, playing at centre half, cleared an Ajibade attack from the right before Lee Thomas was involved in a move which saw Chris Bright fire wide in the seventh minute.

Southam had the first corner in the eleventh minute which was cleared and four minutes later, Tunde Abijade drove a shot when left alone inside the area in to the side netting at the North Stand.

A minute later, Martin Gormley went through and sliced a shot wide of the far post for Copsewood who forced Tom Cross to gather a cross.

Rawlings had a shot blocked by Bright in Copsewood’s next attack and Dominic Alleyne sent another cross harmlessly across the face of the goal.

In front of a crowd of around 450, Southam won a 24th minute corner which was cleared up to Connoll Farrell who rifled a left footed shot high over the bar.

Lawrence Cairns got into a great position to send a pile driver over in the 28th minute with Southam going up the other end through Crisp who fed Andy Yeates who fired well wide.

The Saints won a 31st minute corner and Copsewood had Andy Wilson-King cautioned. Following the free kick, Saints attacked and George Whitlaw did well to head off the line and clear the danger.

Martin Gormley attacked for Copsewood having two shots blocked and squared for Farrell to win a 38th minute corner. Southam broke and Lee Thomas played a through ball to Callum Yeates who curled his shot wide of Dale O’Donnell’s left hand post.

The Saints had a 42nd minute corner and after a melee, Callum Yeates fired over.

On the stroke of half-time, Southam United were awarded a penalty when Abidjade went down inside the area. Tunde Abijade got up to take the spot kick but Dale O’Donnell dived to his right and pushed the ball away to keep things level at the break.

Gormley had the first shot of the second half and from a Quirke free kick, Matty Fowler had a shot pushed over for a corner.

Rawlings over hit a free kick and seconds later Connoll Farrell got through but he could only fire wide as Copsewood piled on the pressure. Jones was forced to concede a corner from a Gormley cross.

Copsewood won a 65th minute corner which was blocked before substitute Danny Fraser played in Craig Civellis who skied his twenty yarder over the bar.

Cross made a good block from Farrell in the 73rd minute which led to a corner either side of two penalty appeals for the Saints.

Brighton went close with an 85th minute attack and Fraser fed for Gormley for a tame shot at Cross before the game went into extra time.

Rawlings had the first shot firing over the bar in the second minute of the first period of extra time but it was the Saints who won the first corner which was cleared by Wilson-King.

Connoll Farrell crashed a shot against the cross from twenty yards out in the 103rd minute but the flag was already up and there were still no goals going into the second period of extra time.

A Cairns snap shot from the edge of the area went wide five minutes into the second period and Fowler had a header saved from a free kick but in their next attack, Connoll Farrell  got down the left and kept his cool to slip the ball past Tom Cross.

With five minutes of extra time left , Southam were awarded a free kick which Lee Thomas curled over and a free kick sailed over but Farrell’s goal was enough and Coventry Copsewood had won the Coventry Charity Football Cup.
