Colombia High Road cyclist Mark Cavendish has confirmed he will ride in the British National Road Race Championships in Abergavenny.

The race takes place on a challenging 160km course around the roads of Monmouthshire on Sunday, June 28.

Cavendish (pictured above) who has had ten stage wins this season already and is in the start list for the Tour Of Switzerland which starts today, is just one of a star line up for the event and trying to beat him will be fellow Brits Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and David Millar who is currently doing well in the 61st Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré.

Also in the field are top British cyclists - Roger Hammond and Rob Hayles and Chris Newton who are currently in the Tour Series which is being featured on ITV4.

Nicole Cook, whose father and grandfather are from Coventry, will ride the women's race twenty four hours earlier.

Abergavenny Festival of Cycling organiser Bill Owen said: "These are, without doubt, the best fields ever assembled for the National Championships. The men's race is wide open and I really don't know who's going to win it. To have Mark Cavendish entering just completes a sensational line-up. The course has numerous different elements which will test riders across the board so there is no obvious favourite."
