Because she’s worth it!

Next Sunday is Mothers Day and to celebrate this, Mum’s the word in the Lower Precinct in Coventry city centre this week.

From 9th- 13th March, at 1pm – 2pm Tuesday to Friday and 11.30am- 12.30pm on Saturday, to make your mum feel special, the Mercia Thunders will be handing out flowers to the build up to Mothers Day, thanks to the Lower Precinct.

Mark Dixon, The Shopping Centre Manager Lower Precinct, said, “We just want to reward all mums for that special day on Sunday. So we have The Mercia Thunders in the Lower Precinct giving out free daffodils during lunchtimes over the next few days.  We really want  all the mums to come here and collect their special flowers for their very special day”.

Let’s face it, everyone’s mother is worth it, and this is a perfect build up for the big day on Sunday, so why not get yourself down to the Lower Precinct...but mum’s the word.

Some Mothers Day Trivia (thanks to a Girls World. com).

·         Mother's Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world. Australia, Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, China, Thailand, all have special celebrations to honour Mothers, but not in the same way or on the same day as the United States.

·         During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday." Servants would go home to see their families, bringing cakes and sweets to their moms. This custom was called "going a-mothering". Each mother would receive a simnel-cake (Latin for "fine flour) and mothers would give a blessing to their children.

·         Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia began the campaign that brought about the official observance of Mother's Day in the United States. Her mother died, and Anna wanted all mothers to be remembered. She asked that white carnations be the official mother's day symbol. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed the orders that made Mother's Day a national holiday.
