Alvis Sporting celebrated promotion to the Midland League Division One after a five star 5-1 winning performance against Rostance Edwards at Green Lane on Monday night. This was their ninth consecutive win on their own ground, and with five league games to be played, they still remain unbeaten, and stretched their lead at the top to six points.

Alvis began confidently, and went in front on 11 minutes when Dildane Linton accepted a through ball to net from 10 yards. On the half hour Alvis increased their lead when a right wing cross from Rickie Cutting was headed home by Linton. Rostance Edwards reduced the deficit just before the break with a low drive from Jordan Evans, but Alvis dominated in the second half with Tommy Maguire scoring after 60 minutes with a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area. Two further goals in the final ten minutes by Linton taking advantage of defence splitting balls rounded off a great performance by the Green Lane side.

Last Saturday Alvis Sporting shared two goals at Austrey Rangers with Alvis taking the lead after 19 minutes with Stefen McGrath heading home a Ben Crannage cross. Harley Baker equalised for the hosts after 36 minutes, but from then onwards Alvis dominated the game, but were unable to add to the scoreline.

After the Rostance Edwards game Alvis manager, Damian Cassidy, said" We are very pleased to have won promotion with five games remaining, but we are now aiming to go up as Champions. Whilst I was disappointed that we did not convert our chances at Austrey, I have to say that the display tonight was on a par with our great display at Chelmsley Town a few weeks ago".

Alvis Sporting are at home on Saturday against Coton Green, and also host Droitwich Spa on Bank Holiday Monday, both games with 3.00pm starts.
