362 Votes For City Supporter Joe

Coventry City supporter Joe Rukin polled 362 votes in the General Election.

Mr Rukin, a seasoned Sky Blues campaigner stood as an Independent candidate in the Kenilworth & Southam constituency, opposed to the proposed high speed rail link between London and Birmingham which looks to decimate some of the Warwickshire countryside whilst not stopping at Coventry station or serving any of our towns.

Rukin polled 362 votes in the constituency which saw Conservatives Jeremy Wright hold the seat with 25,945 votes. Other votes were Lib Dems 13,393, Labour 6, 949, UKIP 1,214, Green 568.

Speaking about the votes, Mr Rukin said: "As I only became a candidate sixteen days ago, I've got to be happy with 362 votes, especially as people who didn't know my surname voted by post before knowing I was standing."
