Coventry Sphinx stuffed Studley 7-1 in a thriller at Sphinx Drive tonight.

Paul Charnley made only one change from the team that had won 4-0 at Friar Lane last Monday with David Care replacing Ashley Wilks and his side were ahead in the 21st minute against a Studley side who went into the game in second place in the Midland Alliance table..

Luke Hopkins, who earlier had a superb volley saved, had a shot blocked and Callum Woodward was on hand to fire home from the edge of the area for his fourth goal of the season.

Sphinx continued to dominate the game and were only prevented from increasing their lead by the post in the 33rd minute which had been struck by a Jimmy Halton free kick.

Seven minutes into the second half,Sphinx scored again from a penalty rolled into the net by Robbie Stevenson after Jerome Murdock had been brought down.

Two turned to three in the 55th minute. Murdock was brought down on the edge of the area by the home keeper Steve Grogan. Robbie Stevenson took the resulting free kick and superbly fired the ball into the net.

Studley pulled one back on the hour mark through a Greg Elland header but in the 64th minute, David Care got down the right to thump home Sphinx's fourth goal.

The Sphinx support were in raptures as Sphinx threatened everytime they went forward and in the 75th minute, substitute James Harri held the ball up and Jez Carpenter was on hand to smash into the net.

The goal was still being celebrated when less than a minute later, Jimmy Halton got through to fire home a shot which went off the crossbar and post before it crossed the line.

Ten minutes from time, a superb team performance was complimented when Jerome Murdock picked up on a through ball and held it for Jimmy Halton to ram home.

The win lifts Sphinx up to second in the Midland Alliance table. Paul Charnley's side are at home to Coalville on Saturday. The day has been designated a family fun day which starts at 1pm with kick off at 3pm.
