Coventry Sphinx won 1-0 at Oadby Town to go with a point of league leaders Market Drayton tonight.

Paul Charnley's side did everything in the first half bar score. Jez Carpenter,Robbie Stevenson,Callum Woodward and Jimmy Halton all had good chances before Dave Drennan got the ball in the net in the 32nd minute, only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Stevenson missed at the far post seven minutes later and before the half ended, Sphinx should have had a penalty as well against an Oadby shot which did not even have a shot thanks to some excellent defending with Terry Ward particularly impressive.

The onslaught continued into the second half. Oadby keeper Laurie Pearson made a tremendous save to deny Woodward, who then fired over from a couple of yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Adie Fisher sent a free kick just over in the 57th minute just before Jerome Murdock was booked. The Sphinx striker, continued to have his say leaving the referee no choice but to dismiss him and landing himself with a possible club fine and further suspension.

Paul Charnley sent on Luke Hopkins and Tom Thacker and in the 75th minute, Thacker scored his second goal for Sphinx since his move from Highgate United.

A move down the right saw the ball played back to Jimmy Halton who delivered a deep cross for Thacker to rise and head home, delighting the Sphinx travelling support, who left happy with another three points from what was a good team performance.
