Super Coventry Sphinx are through to an FA Cup Preliminary Round tie at Rugby Town on August 29th after a 2-1 extra time victory over Lye Town.

There were no goals in the first half of this Extra Preliminary Round tie at Sphinx Drive but in the 69th minute, Richard Blythe swept home to put Luke Hopkins side ahead.

In the 88th minute, Sphinx were reduced to ten men when Jackson Downie was sent off for a second bookable offence and with the numerical advantage, Lye equalised with a stunning striker from Simon Williams in second half stoppage time to send the goal into extra time.

Sphinx had former Coventry City players Tom Bates and Avun Jephcott up front but in the 104th minute, it was Luke Downes, with a shot from thirty five yards plus which dipped over the keeper, who sent Sphinx through to the next round, with a 2-1 win.
