Coventry Sphinx 2-0 Kirby Muxloe.
Coventry Sphinx put in a great performance to beat Kirby Muxloe on a rainy afternoon at Sphinx Drive.
The conditions did not affect either team with Sphinx starting without the suspended Luke Downes and Ashley Cain who has an ankle injury.
Sphinx started brightly with two early chances and Jack Downes flashing wide at the far post.
The Leicestershire side did manage a sixth minute corner but it was Luke Hopkins side who were starting to create chances with Kyle Baxter having a free kick caught and efforts from McKenzie and Downes.
Aaron Love volleyed over in the 26th minute but Sphinx were up the other end with a McKenzie soht and Captain Ashley Jackson heading wide from a corner.
A goal was in the offing and it came in the 29th minute thanks to a super cross from the left and there was Adam Bilic who had a fine game, planting a lovely header past Butlin in the Kirby Muxloe goal.
Sphinx were the better side and in the 52nd minute, they increased their tally when Giovanni Dainty was allowed to turn inside the area and score with a shot that went through a crowd of bodies in the penalty area.
Rickie Cutting was proving to be a handful for Kirby defence and in the 55th minute he hit the side neeting before being thwarted when clean through four minutes later.
In the 61st minute, Sphinx had a massive let off when a cross from David Wasseldine was met by Aaron Love. who somehow from a yard out, sent the ball wide of the post in a chance where it was easier to score than miss.
Both managers made all their changes before Wilks shot wide and then the keeper just grabbed from a Cutting shot.
In the 90th minute, Adam Bilic let rip with a thirty yarder which was flying into the net until Butlin, diving high to his left got his left hand to it and pushed the ball round for a corner.
Three minutes into stoppage time, Kirby Muxloe had the ball appear to cross the goal-line before it was cleared away by Kyle Baxter. The referee and his assistant on the Willie Knibbs Stand side were not well placed and nothing was given and Sphinx were able to record a clean sheet and a 2-0 victory.
