Walsall Wood 2-5 Coventry Sphinx Youth

Coventry Sphinx Youth are through to the First Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup after a 5-2 win at Walsall Wood.

Steve Shea and Neil Moran's side were a goal down inside seven minutes when Ashley Preece slipped the ball past Dave Allen.

But two minutes later, Sphinx were back in the match thanks to Danny Barlow banging home.

The goal lifted what was an injury ravaged Sphinx side and in the 18th minute, Chris Wilson King's long ranger flew into the net to delight the travelling support.

Walsall equalised in the 42nd minute through Lee Knight but before the end of the half Sphinx were back in front when Declan Callum rose to head the ball on for Dave Freeman to hit home.
Three minutes after the restart, Sphinx dealth the killer blow when Danny Barlow pushed the ball through and steered the ball past two defenders and the keeper.
Walsall Wood had no answer to a well organised Sphinx side, who controlled all the play and with twelve minutes left, Chris Wilson King was clattered by the keeper but stayed on his feet long enough to slot the ball into the net and give Sphinx a place in the next round.

That game comes next next Thursday. Kick off at 7.45pm when Sphinx are at home to Norton United.
