Sphinx Youth are out of the FA Youth Cup after a 3-1 home defeat to Atherstone Town.

The visitors took the lead in the fourth minute but play was halted in the 32nd minute when Sphinx keeper Jack Hartopp was taken to hospital with spinal bruising after crashing to the ground extremely hard when diving to meet the ball at the feet of an Atherstone attacker.

Hartopp was given an ovation by the crowd as he was taken to a waiting ambulance and when play resumed, some 34 minutes later, Sphinx cleared two efforts off the line before drawing level in the 42nd minute when Tom Hill fired home.

Atherstone went back in front with a stunning free kick in the 51st minute and with nine minutes remaining, scored a third to progress in to the Third Qualifying Round.
