Coventry Sphinx booked a semi-final place in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup with a 2-1 home quarter-final victory over Romulus.
Nigel Starkey's side should have been three goals up before the break and were denied a blatant 57th minute penalty when they took the lead with a controversial 77th minute goal.
Romulus' number four was down with a head injury but referee Pete Manuel waved play on, allowing Nathan Martin to score from three yards.
Romulus levelled with a well worked goal with four minutes to go but in the second minute of stoppage time, a quickly taken free fell for Matty Budd on the right hand side of the penalty area to drive a low shot into the bottom corner and send Sphinx into the semi-finals.
On Saturday, Sphinx's first team travel to Coleshill Town whilst on Thursday, Sphinx Youth are back to league action with a home game against Bromyard Town.
