Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins was pleased with the way his side came from a goal down to win 4-2 at AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday.

Speaking to the Sphinx website, Hopkins said: "Things clicked into place and along with the work rate and the passion and will to win we got a result and yes it was our first league away win of the season which is very poor coming in November but all credit to the lads as AFC Wulfurians is a hard place to go and get a point let alone all three..

"We had a few forced changes due to suspensions, injuries and illness and started trying to play a passing game which is what we have spent hours working on during training over the past couple of weeks.

"It didn’t help with conceding an early goal and it was poor defending from us and sloppy passing, but the lads dusted themselves down and dominated the game for the last 20 in the first half and we sensed a goal was coming.

"Half time it was about installing some belief, I could see frustration as they were doing as asked and it was little bits that needed changing to effect the end product. We got a deserved goal through Jacob Dodds, another youth team product, it was a great instinctive finish which got us back in the game but not for long though and conceded what I though was a offside in the intial build up to the goal.

"We made changes added Chris Gummery to the attack and he immediately made an impact and that allowed Rickie Cutting to play last man and get us a goal back and in the game. All game Luke Downes was brilliant and dictated the play, the tempo and controlled the game alone, outstanding performance and it was his ball Ash Wilks headed home to put us in the lead.

"We added another Youth team player - 16 year old Kyle Jaynes to the attack as fresh legs and he has an honest work rate and ability to cause problems. He got himself a goal which took him to 2 in 3 games and certainly knocking on the door.

MOM was split between Luke Downes previously mentioned and Matty Taylor whose attitude has been brilliant all season and he was outstanding when he came off the bench after 15 minutes to replace Kyle Baxter and certainly went about playing for the shirt.

"What pleased me most was the character the lads showed after going behind twice if that happened 2 or 3 weeks ago we would of lost the game but they showed a lot of graft and team spirit which I hope they will take into the rest of the season.

"We have plenty to play for we are in a steady position in the league with a top 6 finish still attainable and are still in the league cup."
