Sphinx Boss On Playing Young Players Policy

Last updated : 15 December 2014 By LW

Coventry Sphinx finished the Coleshill Town game with probably the youngest side they have fielded in a good few years.

Sphinx finished the game with two 16 year olds, two 17 year olds, two 18 year olds, one 19 year old and a 22 year old!

Over the season, fifteen players who have pulled on the first team shirt have come through the Youth set up.

Sphinx have always had the policy of if you are good enough you are old enough and this has shown this season.

Manager Luke Hopkins said to the Sphinx website: 'With having just a minimal budget we are always looking to use youth team players or to go out and get younger players who have yet to be given a chance at this level.

"These players have no fear and in the case of players who have come through the juniors and Youth they will run through brick walls for you.

"I am confident that if we can keep this team together over the next couple of years we will be challenging for the title, I have already seen at Under 16 level two players that will make the step up in the next 18 months or so

"We have a good set up here at Sphinx which has been built on years of dedication from a lot of people and we have a history which many other clubs would be proud to have.

So if theres any young kids out there who feel that they want to come along and join the Sphinx family then get in contact through the Sphinx website http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/coventrysphinx/ and we will welcome you with open arms'
