Coventry Sphinx went out of the Polymac League Cup with a 1-0 defeat at home to Alvechurch.

Robbie Banks side again started well, fashioning three chances in the opening fifteen minutes against an Alvechurch side which might had had a penalty for a Francis shove.

Sphinx's first corner of the game came in the 20th minute and to be punched away by the Church keeper.

Collett made a great save in the 41st minute before a great move saw a Ryan Quinn shot go just past the post.

Three minutes into the second half and Sphinx were unlucky not to be ahead when Mitch Thomson curled over.

Sphinx had the better of the play but in the 79th minute, Nick Wright, was played in from a Danny Ashton ball and slipped it past Neil Collett to book a trip to Hereford in the next round.

Sphinx: Collett, Muldoon, Taylor, Francis, Rooney, L.Downes, Rankin (Dodds 62), Quinn, Thomson, Akinuli (Wilson 46), Grocott.
