Coventry Sphinx run of good form in the Midland Alliance League continued with a 2-1 home win against Studley tonight.

Danny McSheffrey's side got off to a great start when Kyle Rhodes got the ball from Pawel Tomczek and past the defence and beat Cox in the Studley goal with a sublime finish after ninety seconds.

The visitors had penalty appeals turned down when James Bailry went down but Sphinx recovered, winning a tenth minute corner that Liam Kay headed wide.

In the 21st minute, James Robbins headed away from the line from a Studley corner following a free kick.

Sphinx went up the other end and Kyle Rhodes gave Cox no chance with a stunning 25 yard left footed shot which flew into the top of the net.

Studley, who arrived at Sphinx Drive fourth in the table, had their manager sent to the stand and the visitors had three corners before the half ended.

The second half was at times a stormy affair and saw Studley have Clance unbelievably miss an open goal before Tom Lacey was allowed as much time as he wanted to score a 66th minute equaliser.

Studley were lifted by this and it was only two super saves from Carl O'Neill which stopped the visitors from levelling a minute later.

McSheffrey made a double change to try and stem the Studley pressure but the resolute Sphinx defence led by Terry Ward held firm and Sphinx went on to collect the full compliments of points.

Sphinx travel to Bridgnorth on Saturday before completing their Midland Alliance fixtures with a home game against Coleshill Town on Monday April 25th at 3pm
