COVENTRY SPHINX 2-1 KENILWORTH TOWN BY KEV MONKS

Coventry Sphinx were back amongst the goals with a 2-1 home win over Kenilworth Town.

The game on a cold night at Sphinx Drive was only seventy four seconds old, when the Stratford Alliance Premier Division side got a free kick which was nodded into the path of Alan Robinson who was allowed room to poke home from five yards.

With Danny McSheffrey again using the game to look at more players, Sphinx took their time to find any fluidity to their play and Kenilworth will count themselves unlucky not to have had their centre forward score a brace when he fired over in the thirteenth minute and then lobbed the ball over when clean through, some thirteen minutes later.

They were made to pay for not taking their chances when Pavel Tomczak scored twice in a minute.

In the 42nd minute, the Pole who joined last season, got the ball on the left and scored with a low drive into the far corner of the net and less than a minute later, Tomczak moved into a central position and gave the visiting keeper no chance with a stunning left footed shot.

Both sides kept things tight in a second half noted for both managers making changes.

However, in the 63rd minute, Tomczak was denied his hat-trick when his header from a Muldoon cross was headed off the line.

Sphinx, who are at home to Christ The King on Thursday night, had the chances late on but had to be satisfied with a 2-1 victory.
