Lots Going On At Coventry Sphinx

Last updated : 20 June 2016 By CNS Sport/LW

The football season may have ended at the end of April but there has still been plenty going on at the club during the close season.

A new manager has been swiftly appointed after the departure of Robbie Banks. The man in the hot seat is now Stuart Dutton who returns to the club as first team manager after a stint at Coventry Copsewood. “Dutts” moved quickly to add Neil Collett and Martin Sockett to his backroom staff and has been busy putting together a squad to represent Coventry Sphinx in the Midland Football League Premier Division, FA Cup and FA Vase.

Season Tickets have been on sale during the summer and the early Bird rate of £90 for an adult is available until 30 June. All under 16’s are entitled to free admission to Coventry Sphinx home fixtures all season.
Five pre-season fixtures have been arranged already and more could be added. Our first friendly fixture will be against a Solihull Moors XI on Friday 8 July, 7pm kick off.

A very successful Juniors Tournament took place in June at Sphinx Drive and once again the success of the event was down to the hard work and enthusiasm of all the volunteers.

Our groundsman Paul has been working hard on all the pitches at Sphinx Drive over the last month or two and his work has paid off with the main pitch looking in superb condition. Top dressing, seeding and fertilising have produced a high quality surface already and the players will no doubt be delighted with what they see when they return for pre-season training on Saturday 25 June at 12 noon.

Maintenance and improvement work at the ground is in progress and has already made a visible difference. Work in progress at the moment includes maintenance of the pitch side barriers in preparation of the arrival of the many new advertising boards that have been purchased by businesses who have embraced our “Golden Ticket” draw. There is still time to get involved with the Golden Ticket draw so get in touch with Lynton by email at Lyntos@hotmail.co.uk for more details.

Work planned before the season starts includes redecoration of the changing rooms, painting around the ground and cleaning and maintenance of the spectator stand. If you feel you can volunteer any assistance with any task around the club then please do get in touch. There is always something to do and all sorts of skills can be utilised at the club to improve the facilities for all. Contact sharon@coventrysphinx.co.uk if you feel you can help in any way.
