Hopkins To Ring Changes After Cup Exit

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins has said that he will ring the changes after his side crashed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 7-0 defeat at home to Redditch United.

'You can have all the ability in the world, up there with Messi and Ronaldo, but if you don't have work rate, belief and a desire and passion to play in the shirt you pull on, you may as well be at home playing tiddly winks.

We lacked a massive set of balls to be honest, its old school comments and a way of thinking, but we didn’t compete. I think a sorry for the people who pay to watch week in week out is the way to go forward and have my word it’s not acceptable to turn out like that, changes to freshen it up are required, we will have a different look to us Saturday and only winning or dying for the cause is what is accepted. It never done us any harm in the past and I think it’s back to basics of win your personal battles.

"I can take losing heavily if I think that the players I put out are not good enough. I knew we would be up against as Redditch are a more than useful team but that was not acceptable," said Hopkins to the Coventry Sphinx website.

"The players have let themselves down, the fans down and ultimately let this club down. We have been poor for a number of weeks now and this is maybe been coming.

"I will shoulder part of the blame for that as I should have reacted earlier to the situation.

"Saturday we are up against Basford which will be another real test.

I wish Redditch all the best for the season and think they will do well from here on in, they play with a high tempo and shift the ball in the right areas.

"As for us, lets wait and see...."
