COVENTRY SPHINX 5-2 BOLDMERE ST MICHAELS BY KEV MONKS

Coventry Sphinx put in a superb performance to beat previously unbeaten Boldmere St Michaels 5-2 at Sphinx Drive tonight.

They got off to the best possible start after only 63 seconds when Gary Mead played in Kyle Rhodes, who hit a shot from twenty yards that flew into the net.

Rhodes along with Aaron Donaldson were in superb form and in the first half totally controlled the midfield.

A good run from Donaldson firstly set up Jerome Murdock
for a fifth minute and then he got round his marker to slip the ball inside to Kelvin Phillips for a close range effort which Adam Jenkins superbly blocked with his legs.

Boldmere were level in the sixth minute when Lee Osbourne rounded Carl O'Neill and Simeon Tulloch was able to tap into the empty net.

This proved a mere blip for Danny McSheffrey's side as Sphinx were back in front two minutes later thanks to Kelvin Phillips getting the final touch to head home a corner.

With Phillips laying the ball off well, Sphinx kept pushing. Rhodes and Mead both tried their luck and in the 25th minute, Jerome Murdock, got inside the area and curled a left footed shot. Callum Woodward dived forward and beat the defender and static keeper with his head for Sphinx's third goal.

Murdock was again provider as Sphinx added a fourth in the 28th minute thanks a super run down the left by Murdock to get a long ball. He beat a defender to the ball and sent the ball to the far post. Donaldon met it with a low drive and there was Kelvin Phillips to bang the ball into the net.

Boldmere pulled one back two minutes into the second half when Tulloch was taken down. Referee Simon Lane awarded a penalty and Stuart McNaught scored from the resulting spot kick.

Jenkins denied Murdock with his feet in the 64th minute, before Boldmere hit the far post from a corner.

With ten minutes to go, Sphinx wrapped up a good evening's work when Kyle Rhodes scored with a low drive.
