Coventry City U23’s came from a goal down to beat Colchester United 3-1 at the Alan Higgs Centre this afternoon.

Jason Farndon, named a side that again included Kyel Reid, loanee Jordan Maguire Drew and a trialist for this game played at the Alan Higgs Centre in front of a bigger than normal crowd due to the school holidays and it was one that was a goal down with less than gour and a half minutes of play on a grey afternoon, when a mistake by  Ford let in Gondoh who played in Elijah Phillips who calmly slipped the ball past Corey Addai.

City started to get back into the game with a lovely twenty plus yarder from Jordan Maguire-Drew having to be pushed over for a seventh minute corner that was met by Reid who skied it over the bar and onto the bank behind the goal.

Jordan Thompson, who had a solid game in City’s defence, cleared an Allarauhia shot off the line. City went up the other and Reid had a shot from a Camwell cross saved, Then Colchester replied with a corner and another in the 31st minute.

Now City’s trialist, wearing the number eight shirt and playing as a defensive midfielder, had not done much to convince many of the support that he was worth another look but he did played in Maguire-Drew for a 32nd minute shot which from twenty yards, he curled onto Wurasik’s left hand post.

Callum Maycock had a great game in midfield but was booked for his second foul in a matter of minutes before Addai made a terrific save diving high to his right just before half-time.

A quick change round and a talk from Jason Farndon and City came out far more attack minded.

Maguire-Drew won and then cocked up a City corner, much to his annoyance and in front of the watching Marc McNulty who was amongst some of the first team players now supporting those on the pitch.

Callum Maycock fired acros the goal and Ponticelli had a shot saved before Dion Kelly-Evans played in his twin brother to win a 52nd minute corner.  That came over and there was Chris Camwell at the back stick to fire home and get the Sky Blues deservedly level.

The goal lifted City and despite the players and City support getting annoyed with a referee who wanted to be the centre of attention, the Sky Blues kept looking to attack at every opportunity.

On the hour mark, Reid sent over a cross which Wurasik flapped at. The ball went over to Devon Kelly-Evans and he centred for Callum Maycock to thunder a shot which hit the cross bar.

In the 65th minute, Devon Kelly-Evans got in down the left and cross and there was Jordan Maguire-Drew to tap home and put the Sky Blues 2-1 up.

A City corner was cleared away but in the 73rd minute, a lovely ball from Devon Kelly-Evans found Jordan Ponticelli who nipped through, kept his calm and fired past Wurasik for the third goal.

Jordan Maguire-Drew and Kyel Reid were replaced for the last thirteen minutes of a game which saw Jordan Ponticelli suffered what looked like cramp or a hamstring pull and one the Sky Blues saw out comfortably to take a deserved win.
