Rioch Working Hard To Keep City Kids

Coventry City Academy Manager Greg Rioch has said that he is doing his best to stop players leaving for other clubs.

Danny Sturridge was a City Academy product who was prised away and Rioch is working hard to ensure that those at the Academy enjoy their time here and don't want to play for other clubs.

Speaking to the CT, Rioch said: "That has been a concern of the football club and 18 months ago when the Chairman came in, he was concerned that we were investing a lot of money into the Academy and there was no guarantee that they will stay the distance.

"However, we are in a win-win situation because if boys do leave us, then we do get compensation for them, although we want our boys to stay with us.

"So what I and my assistant Richard Stevens try to do is to ensure that when boys walk in the door that they enjoy themselves and get the coaching to ensure they feel like they are improving and hopefully, they won't want to leave, even when the bigger clubs come along because it is hard to break through at the bigger clubs than it is with a Championship club."
