Coventry City played their part in a terrific game of football but went down to a stoppage time 4-3 defeat against Manchester City.

The Sky Blues in front of a crowd which included some of the City team, Steve Ogrizovic, John Williams and former England player Andrew Cole, got off to the worst possible start when Lee Burge failed to kick the ball away and Devante Cole completed the simple task of tapping into the empty net with 32 seconds gone.

Eleven minutes later, Burge''s day got worse when he pulled Jordy Hiuva-Mayquis down and was cautioned by the referee who gave a penalty from which Emyr Huws gave Burge no chance.

In what was becoming a match that you could not take your eyes off for a second due to both sides playing some really entertaining football, the Sky Blues came back and in the 29th minute, Jonson Harris-Clarke went down and a penalty was awarded that Billy Daniels duly dispatched to reduce the arrears.

A good stop with his legs by Ian Lawlor in the visitors goal stopped Jonson Harris-Clarke who cut in from the left from equalising in the 37th minute. This was followed by a great move involving Wiseman, Richards and Daniels whose twenty five yarder whistled past the far post.

Five minutes into the second half, Man City restored their two goal lead thanks to Alex Honsall getting to a long ball and finishing neatly past Burge.

Greg Rioch’s teams always have plenty of spirit and they used it to great effect when Jonson Harris-Clarke beautifully controlled the ball on the edge of the area to score with a low 55th minute drive and three minutes later to draw level in the driving rain when the visiting keeper dropped the ball under pressure from Harris-Clarke who kept the ball in before playing in across for Jemal Wiseman to tap in.

Every City player giving their all and there were some cracking performances from Wiseman and Daniels to name but two players. However, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, the Sky Blue babes were on the losing side when a free kick came over from the right and Keiran Kennedy was left unmarked to give Man City a win with the last kick of the match.
