Coventry City U23's coach Jason Farndon has been helping City boss Mark Robins on a match day.

Robins had Farndon in the dressing room for the defeat at Notts County and Farndon told Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph: “The gaffer has asked me to go on matchdays with the first team.

“What his plans are long term I don’t know. I took training on Saturday morning and then drove to Notts County.

“It’s a good learning experience for me. I can listen to what the manager is saying to the first team and I can go to the 23s and try to bridge that gap.

“It’s good for my personal development to be involved in first team football.

“I’m involved at Ryton day to day as well. It varies. Sometimes we train separately but there are a lot of times when we train together.

“There are obviously a lot of young players involved and sometimes the development players go and play if their characteristics are like the opposition etc.

“It isn’t a huge squad and I’m involved with the first team now which is really good but still very much with the development squad.

“The gaffer plays young players so I am in a lucky position where I get to see the end product as well.

“Adi saw his players winning things at Chelsea and there are a few who have stepped up and are playing now, but I get to see the end product as well on a Saturday now.”

"I speak to people who say ‘what’s a good coach,’ and I suppose it’s the ones who get the players to play for them and he seems to spot really good tactical things and that can only help the club.”
