Coventry City took Arsenal to extra time in an FA Youth Cup Fifth Round tie but one poor penalty saw them punished by Arsenal and go out of the competition.

At the Ricoh Arena tonight, where there were queues to get in, City who had beaten Walsall, Crewe, Stoke and Charlton took on Arsenal.

Jason Farndon had his strongest side available out and they started well with a fourth minute Jak Hickman shot going over the North Stand goal.

Arsenal won a free kick and then a corner in the eighth minute on a cold night before Reiss Nelson had pop from 25 yards which went just past the hands of the diving Corey Addai against his former club and out for a goal kick.

Camwell fired over in the 17th minute with Birthday Boy Jay Albini firing at Keto in the Arsenal goal.

Arsenal who played the ball round well, won a 22nd minute corner that Tom Bayliss superbly cut out.

Hickman got City attracking again and Keto had to palm a Camwell shot away. Arsenal failed to clear and the ball went out to Jak Hickman who cut inside before sending a powerful shot into the bottom of the net.

Nelson flicked wide with the outside of his boot in the 28th minute but five minutes later, he was involved as a mistake gave the Young Gunners the ball on the left and it went to Tyrell Robinson who raced through and picked his spot to equalise.

City won a corner and had Albini fire tamely at Keto just before Arsenal went up the other end and had one shot saved and one go wide after Chris Willock had raced through.

Camwell was booked at the end of the half.

The second half started with an early corner for City and Hickman getting a whack on the back of the leg. Nelson flicked over. City broke and a Hickman cross should have led to a penalty but the referee was having none of it.

Camwell cleared off the line from Adelaide in the 53rd minute. That led to a corner but Addai came out and claimed and the danger passed.
Arsenal won another corner a minute later and Camwell fired over at the other end.

Bola was booked in the 57th minute. That led to a great free kick from Shipley which just missed everyone.

Andries Jonker's side had a 61st minute corner cleared and two minutes later, City had a free kick which ended up in the arms of Hugo Keto.

Nelson ran on to a short ball from Maycock and played in Marcus McGuane who shot high and wide with only Addai to beat.

A 67th minute mistake gave the ball to Shipley but he fired tamely at Keto who got his side involved in another attack.

Leahy made yet another superb tackle for a City side which was trying to get the ball up to Bas Sambou who was always flanked by two defenders.

Addai caught a 75th minute Nelson free kick and Bayliss flicked wide in front of a crowd of 1,828.

Dan Smith who had come on for Hickman who had run himself into the ground, drove wide of the far post with seven minutes left.

Nelson fired wide at the other end as did Malen with five minutes left.

Four minutes were added on. Arsenal won a corner, Leahy cleared and City went forward with Sambou just missing a Smith cross.

The game went to extra time with Malen having the first effort three minutes in to a win a corner that Addai caught one handed.

Maycock who was hit by a Camwell ball needed treatment and was forced off to be replaced by Hendricks.

Shipley was booked as cramp became a major factor amongst the City players.

Malen sent another shot wide and Bayliss fired at Keto before the game went into the second period of extra time.

A minute in and the City defence stood and watched as Donyell Malen was given room to score from eight yards.

City had given Arsenal a game and a half but it was clear that tiredness was taking its toll.

Camwell has a 109th minute free kick pushed over for a corner and another was earned two minutes later.

Another corner saw a Leahy shot deflected for a corner and then a free kick against an Arsenal side which was doing their best to waste as much time as possible.

There were Sky Blue Army chants and as three minutes were added on. There was an attack down the left. The ball came over and there was Bas Sambou to equalise and take the game to penalties, amid wild scenes.

Arsenal went first with Nelson who scored. Leahy went next and scored with Malen who scored.  Dan Smith had his effort saved and Sheaf fired wide.

Jordan Shipley scored and Bennacer scored with Camwell also scoring.

Chris Wilcock scored the fifth kick which left Bas Sambou needing to score. That he did so it was sudden death.

Bielik scored just. Finn scored as well so Adelaide stepped up and hit Addai's right hand post. Jacob Whitmore stepped up but Keto pulled off a great save.

Johnson scored so as did Addai and Bola. Hendricks took the last one but it was poor and City were out with a 7-6 penalties defeat.
