After the 4-1 defeat at Ipswich Town on Monday night, Jason Farndon fielded a more developmental team which included a trialist at right back.

Right from the outset on a sunny afternoon at the Alan Higgs Centre, George Dowling was a thorn in the City side having one thirty-yarder fly over the bar and a good run and shot before half-hitting a 20th minute shot which trickled into the net after bouncing twice.

Dowling fired over in the 23rd minute against a City side which started to come with a Dexter Walters effort going just wide, Billy Stedman hooking wide and Walters getting through but missing the target four minutes before the interval.

Bristol City increased their lead in the 52nd minute when Dowling went into the area and went down. It looked harsh but a penalty it was and George Dowling got up to score a second goal for the visitors after Addai had saved his initial effort.

Coventry City pulled a goal back in the 55th minute when they were awarded a free kick on the right. Jordan Thompson knocked the ball down for Josh Eccles to drive low into the net.

Then it was back to the referee show. Mr Cooke started to dish out cards like a dealer in a casino as well as warning everyone with the well-worn line of “One More Word And You Are Off”.

What that word was, we did not discover but there was a third goal for Bristol City when a great ball across was finished off from close range by Sam Bell in the 68th minute.

The Trialist, who looked reasonable enough and Billy Stedman were replaced with fifteen minutes left and although there was a chance for Big Dave Bremang late on, City U23’s were beaten again.
