Coventry City U23's provided a great 44th birthday present for coach Nicky Eaden by beating Ipswich Town 3-1.

City were ahead after only 80 seconds when captain Devon Kelly-Evans won a corner and Cian Harries turned the ball in off a defender and the right hand post.

Ipswich hit the post but in the 44th minute, George Thomas attacked and was brought down for a penalty. Up stepped Ivor Lawton. The keeper went the wrong way and City were two goals to the good at the break.

Coventry dominated proceedings in the second half, only for Ipswich pulled a back in the 72nd minute when Addai saved a free kick and Luke Woolfendon fired home from the loose ball.

With eight minutes to go, a McBean shot was handled and George Thomas slotted home the resulting penalty to give City a 3-1 win.
