Coventry City U23's put in a hard working performance to beat Bristol City 2-0 this afternoon.

Nicky Eaden and Sam Ricketts took the team and were able to name a side which included Jodi Jones and Ruben Lameiras who both swapped wings early on in order to try and get some advantage.

In defence for City, were Cian Harries and Jack Finch, who both were excellent with Harries playing a cracking 13th minute ball out wide which won City a corner.

Jones fired over in the 18th minute and Hickman drove at Woolacott who caught a Devon Kelly-Evans shot after another good move from the Sky Blues, who were playing the ball on the deck with Jordan Shipley who scored in the 1-1 draw at Colchester a fortnight ago, bossing the midfield.

Andrews curled a 26th minute free kick wide but City were straight back up the other end with Lameiras winning a corner and Jodi Jones nipping in for a 32nd minute drive which kept Woolacott's hands warm.

Devon Kelly-Evans, who is on loan at Nuneaton but can play U23's matches, also also in good form and he was next to shoot, firing over in the 34th minute,  before the visitors were awarded a free kick which City dealt with.  Coventry City were playing well and their performance deserved a goal which came on the stroke of half-tim when Jak Hickman ghosted in from the right and thumped a shot in to the corner of the net.

Bristol City made three changes at the break and three minutes into the second half and Addai pulled off a tremendous save diving to his left to deny Hinds. Morrell ran in and hit the outside of the post with the danger then being cleared.

In the 53rd minute, City won two corners and had Maycock fire over before the City Bench went for a triple change in the 61st minute replacing Ruben Lameiras, Jodi Jones and Devon Kelly-Evans.

Bristol City were always a threat and Addai made another excellent block from point blank range as the Robins has a spell of pressure which saw McCoulsky fire from 20 yards and earn a 67th minute corner.

A good build up saw Kyle Spence fire wide. Bilal Sayoud got the ball in the 72nd minute and went on a superb run before hitting a shot which bounced off Woolacott's left hand post and forced the visiting defence to scramble it away as City looked to increase their lead.

Harries was booked for kicking the ball away in the 75th minute. That free kick was cleared and led to City winning a corner.  That 77th minute corner came over and there was Cian Harries to bundle the ball into the net and give the Sky Blues the margin that their effort merited.

Bristol City had a shot deflected into the side netting and a corner cleared off the line by Hickman with nine left. The action continued with both sides having shots over the bar and another good Addai block with his feet.

Spence again fired wide and in the dying seconds, Jordan Ponticelli, who had been booked, was left clean through with only Woolacott to beat. However, he blazed a shot over the bar and it was only a 2-0 victory for the Sky Blues instead of the large win that they should have had on this excellent team performance.
