Coventry City U21's were beaten 2-0 at Wigan Athletic in a Professional Development League League Two North U21 game at Robins Park.

Lee Carsley and Greg Rioch's side started on the attack with Shaun Jeffers who scored in last week's defeat to Sheffield United, heading wide from a Jordan Forrester cross in the fifth minute.

However, Wigan were to take the lead in the ninth minute when Danny Redmond found Edu Campbadel, who beat his marker and crossed for Rakish Bingham to side foot home.

Jeffers drew a great save from Calvin Hare in the 20th minute when he intercepted a back pass and Hare was forced to block with his feet.

Jamie McCormack headed over from a corner five minutes later and three minutes later, Filip Orsula fired into the side netting from a tight angle as Wigan put the pressure on the City defence led by Nathan Cameron.

Wigan continued to attack with City keeper Lee Burge, who had recovered from a knock to his knee, having to get rid of a corner at the second attempt, whilst at the other end, Kiernan, was preventing any balls from getting to Jeffers.

City with Courtney Baker-Richardson on at the break, nearly levelled five minutes into the second half when Will Roberts got in a long range shot which went inches wide.

Lee Burge then saved from Bingham before Morris blasted wide.

In the 55th minute, City went two goals down when Slovakian Filip Orsula got past defenders before sending a cracking left footed shot into the top corner of the net from eight yards.

Carsley made a double change Double sub for Coventry with Ivor Lawton and Jemal Wiseman coming on for Billy Daniels and Lewis Rankin.

In the 70th minute, there was a nasty collision between Hare and City defender Joe Pegg who caught the keeper's elbow in face and had to receive treatment.

With all the subs used, Pegg continued and in the 76th minute, Alex Donald was forced to clear his lines when an Andres ball came across the goal.

Burge denied Andres six minutes later before Joe Henderson conceded a late penalty from which Burge saved, correctly guessing the way Chow would put the place kick and then diving on the loose ball as followed up, as City U21's went down to their second successive defeat.
