Coventry City U18's finished as runners up in the FA Academy League Group B after a 1-0 win at Birmingham City.

On a horrible day at Wast Hills in the pouring rain, Greg Ricoh and Lee Carsley's side hit the post through a Ben Maund shot from the edge of the area.

Courtney Richards, who has been released by City, then drove in a low shot which was forced round the post by Nick Townsend for the first of two corners.

When the second came in, there was Joe Henderson to power in a header and put City ahead.

Two more corners followed either side of Lee Burge pushing away a shot from the pacy Gray.

Why Birmingham had only one real chance in the first forty five minutes was down to some superb work from a midfield well led by Ivor Lawton who had a fine game and a strong back four with Pegg, Henderson, Donald and Smith, all working well.

Both sides made changes in the second half as City started brighter with a couple of chances.

In the 78th minute, City almost got the second goal they wanted when a Richards shot was cleared a couple of feet off the line by Fry.

Birmingham came back late on but only gave Burge some catching practice as City took a deserved win and finished a good season ina highly creditable second place in the table.
